Sena 10R Review Low-Profile Bluetooth Headset!

Maharashtra cyber department has already initiated a proposal for banning the aforesaid apps. When she opposed supporters of a child rapist in Kathua, she experienced unprecedented horrors and had to be hospitalised. A scrupulously made Deep-fake video of Rana Ayyub emerged, which graphically depicted that the lady was indulging in sexual activity like a porn actress.

Whether I’m sitting at a stop light in town, talking with a friend, or just cruising down the interstate, the speaker sound is loud and clear. If you see me riding down the highway, bobbing my head and wiggling my shoulders, just know that the jams are poppin’ in my helmet. I’ll let you guess what ridiculous song I’m jamming on your own, though. When it first released in February of 2016, the 10R was a welcome improvement over the then-flagship Sena SMH10R Bluetooth headset. It got an improved speaker, better design, and better water resistance, as well as a replaceable battery.

I do like having a visual indication of the battery level by glancing at the screen, which turns itself off 30 seconds after being activated by a button press, so it won’t have a significant impact on battery life. Like other devices now, only the station frequency is spoken as you tune in, rather than the station name – a feature that was sadly last seen on the Interphone F5MC of many years ago. My main grumble with the Sena 5S audio performace is simply that there’s no automatic volume control, so while I have it running at full volume for most of a ride, when I slow down for traffic lights I’d prefer it to automatically get quieter. I must admit I was sceptical, but when fiddling around with the unit I did find it helpful. Given the features of the new Sena compared to other leading brands, it doesn’t seem to have increased the price, so I do appreciate the addition. Paired with another Sena device, the neat little LCD on the Sena shows that a headset is linked.

SENA 50R & 50S [In-Depth Review]

With its rugged and simple jog dial design, it was very popular with both the on- and off-road crowds. But the vulnerability to water ingress is a real issue for UK buyers, and after all these years there seems little excuse. The not-quite-perfect voice control and the grumbles with the connections add to the disappointments with the Sena. Fortunately, the Sena 50R is basically the same inside, but it IS waterproof. The Sena is okay, but not the best, coming in at 9 hours and 40 minutes. Sena claims 14 hours of talk-time through Bluetooth and 9 hours using Mesh, so while a group chat will reduce the time you can waffle on, it should be enough for most rides.

Finally, you can use ‘OK Google’ or ‘Hey Siri’ to access your phone’s personal assistant, but as with the Cardo this doesn’t work at speed due to the phone not having the noise-cancelling capabilities of the headset. The Mesh 2.0 intercom is extremely easy to use thanks to it defaulting to ‘Open’ mode. The 50S turns on in Bluetooth by default, but pressing the button on the top switches it to Mesh. Cleverly, the button is tucked behind the pop-up antenna, meaning you’re less likely to forget to lift this, which does make a difference to the signal strength. For flip-front or open-face helmets, two boom mics are supplied – one that sprouts out of the mount and another that fixes inside the helmet. Swapping the mics around is a little fiddly, and you’ll need to download the full instruction manual if you can’t work out how to do it.

Trying to cover every eventuality, I also found that, with two 50Ss connected via Bluetooth, music played fine though my headset , the intercom speech overlaying if you want or interrupting it altogether. The TomTom had no problems cutting into the conversation, but after the message was complete, if music was playing it suddenly went incredibly loud, overdriving the speakers significantly. This is in some way related to having a 50S connected as a Bluetooth intercom, as it didn’t happen with a Sena 10C connected, or when the 50Ss were connected by Mesh. Turning off ‘Audio Multitasking Volume Management’ in the app stops it happening, but if you do experience this, turning the music off then on again will reset it to the normal volume. How well you can communicate with your pillion or other riders will depend on your and their helmet, as well as the fairing and screen on your bikes. Taking the variable of another lid’s performance out of the equation by testing through a phone call, on the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT my voice came across loud and clear at speeds up to just over 50mph.

Volume Control

We were able to instruct, critique and give feedback in real time. You need to preface each command with ‘Hey Sena’, and you’ll need to stick to the script – this is no Alexa so if you don’t specifically say ‘Hey Sena, FM radio on’, you’ll get nothing. What impresses me most with the control is the ability to tap the red button to activate your phone’s assistant. Equally, if you have your phone mounted to the handlebars, you can use the phone’s assistant to plot you a route, or to make a phone call.

You haven’t used it long enough.Battery life has to do with both how long one has to use the system after a charge and whether or not the battery takes a charge. Sena has had this issue with every system I have used after the 10s. I’ve had to return the 20SEvos several times now I have the same issue with the 50R. The Roland Sands Design Women’s Maven Leather Jacket is a quality riding jacket any female rider will love.

Bluetooth Intercom Pairing

A larger, quieter screen should push this further, but this is in line with other units I’ve tested. After much experimentation, I discovered that the original combination of one SF1 connected to one phone and then pairing here to the second SF1 gives the most consistent outcome. This setup stayed consistent, although it did take several button-pushes each time I turned the units on to finally get both intercom and music to work on both units.

I’m not sure of the bluetooth music audio quality on their systems, though. So is HarmonKardon, but in general I’d rate their stuff a little higher than JBL. HKs did not come with my 10R and I can’t retro fit them apparently.

It offers a good compromise between simplicity and plentiful features rolled into a familiar platform. After several thousand miles on this unit using different helmet/bike configurations on dirt and pavement, it performed without a hitch in all scenarios. Thankfully, the 10S maintained the ruggedness that we were so fond of in the SMH10 and stood up well to our day-in day-out use and abuse.

Fast-forward to 2021, and the 10R suffers when compared to the newer Sena models and the competition. It doesn’t have the best audio quality, has just two voice commands, and the water resistance could be much better. Also, the range for group intercom could be much better too. A curious design choice of the Sena 10R is that the headset and battery are split into two separate units. To install the headset, you can use the hook and loop fasteners or the double-sided adhesive mount. The battery pack is usually installed on the rear of the helmet with the adhesive tape and then connected to the headset with an included cable.
